Role Description

The Alberta Program Coordinator, reporting to Alberta Programs Manager, is the key individual that coordinates and supports both Unity’s Alberta-based Virtual Program and its School Programs. The virtual program, called “The Source”, is specifically geared towards Albertan youth, so it is important that the candidate identifies as representing this regional community. 

The program coordinator will work closely with the Unity team and its partners to set up the program, recruit and support participants, and lead the evaluation of all programs. The coordinator will also work closely with Unity Artists to design the program curriculum, to prepare and support them to facilitate, and provide feedback and guidance on their work. 

This role is a part-time, contract position (24 hrs a week). This role is a mixed virtual / in-person role that will require the candidate to be in-person in Calgary 1-2 times per week.

Key Requirements

• 1-3 years of project coordination experience
• Experience working with a Canadian arts or non-profit organization
• Experience in the Hip Hop community, knowledge of Hip Hop culture & its related art forms is considered an asset
• Experience with arts-based facilitation is considered a major asset
• An innovative, entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the Unity Charity mission
• A true desire to execute top-notch youth programs in a fast-paced, energetic environment
• Outstanding organizational and time management skills
• Positive team player, self-motivated, and excellent communicator with the ability to coordinate with interdepartmental teams and with multiple stakeholders
• Excellent attention to detail
• Act in accordance to Unity’s Behavioral Code of Conduct and exercise professional judgment in all scenarios involving youth and external stakeholders
• Driving is an asset, but not required
• Literacy with Zoom, Google Suite
• Experience with virtual program delivery is an asset

Role Responsibilities

‍

Program Planning and Recruitment

• Working with the Alberta Programs Manager to set up program partnerships with identified and new organizations, including the program’s virtual streaming partner, internet and device access partner, and youth recruitment and outreach partners
• Working with Alberta Programs Manager to set clear program timelines, budgets and workback plans
• Working with Alberta Programs Manager and the Unity Communications team to design and distribute program promotional materials
• Working with Unity’s Evaluations Manager to design evaluations strategies to measure program impact
• Working with the program’s youth recruitment and outreach partners to identify and onboard program participants, and their households

Program, Participant and Artist Support

• Working with participants and artist facilitators to co-create the program curricula
• Working with the program’s virtual streaming partner and artist facilitators to ensure the smooth delivery of program workshops
• Identifying participant, artist and partner concerns, and working with the Unity team to solve issues to mutual satisfaction
• Working with the Unity Finance and Operations teams to ensure that Artist Facilitators and partners are paid in a timely fashion

School Booking Administration

• Book Unity programs, performances and workshops for schools
• Building strong working relationships with external parties
• Engage with schools, teachers, principals, conference organizers, community organizations, and other key contacts, as well as attend networking opportunities to stay aligned with bookings best practices
• Project management, and liaising with schools and clients
• Understand and manage deliverables and budgets associated with the Unity school program
• Conduct all necessary preparation and follow up programming with schools involved in Unity school programming
• Creating comprehensive lists of booking prospects including past bookings, creating and adhering to a bookings process, selling the various Unity programs to relevant clients
• Scheduling artists with Program Manager for booked shows, artist follow up and logistics coordination to ensure successful program implementation
• In-person support for facilitators during school programs

Program Evaluation and Quality Improvement

• Ensure that program evaluations are administered and collected
• Work with the Unity team to synthesize, analyze, and respond to the data collected
• Act as the main instigator of program improvements, constantly seeking ways to make the program more impactful, effective, accessible, and enjoyable for participants
• Working to understand Unity’s Theory of Change and Strategic plan to understand how the program can support Unity’s organizational impact and goals in Alberta and beyond
